André Cordemeyer (1924-1998) was born in Bussum, Holland. He has studied mechanical engineering at the HTS (Technical College) in Amsterdam.

In 1956 he started collaboration with Wim Rietveld for the manufacturing brand Gispen. Cordemeyer and Rietveld are responsable for the introduction of the plastic furniture at Gispen. Together they designed armchair No. 416: made of polyester as one of the first industrially manufactured plastic chairs in Netherlands. As an industrial designer he was always looking for new adjustments in production processes. He made use of new materials such as polyester and he was constantly working on improving existing designs. In 1963, he designed specially for Chair no. 1262, self-aligning nylon floor protectors, called Delrin caps, that adapt to the slope of the surface.
